Description of display options

Search results will automatically be sorted by year – i.e. the most recent results will be at the top of the list.
However, search results can also be sorted by various criteria:
  • relevance (default)
  • title (alphabetically sorted)
  • year (newest first)
  • author/editor (alphabetically sorted)
To change the sort mode from "year" to, for example, "title", use the drop-down menu and click the red arrow.
A maximum of 10 records will be displayed on the screen. For larger search results, use the button at the foot of the results to view the next 10 records. A click on "2", for example, will lead directly to the results 11-20.

Search results will be displayed in the standard format (title, publication year, author/editor), showing also the database from which they come. Duplicates – titles which are contained in more than one database and therefore occur more than once – are marked by a vertical grey bar on the left-hand side, which connects the records to one another.
A click on the underlined title of the record button next to each record will display further information (e.g. keywords, abstract, classification), which can be hidden again by clicking next to the title.

Each record contains information on availability and holdings. By clicking the icons, the user can:
  • search for a monograph or journal in the Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog and the Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB)
  • search the document delivery service SUBITO and, for a charge, order a copy of the required article
  • find out whether it is possible to access an electronic full-text from a particular journal. The following "traffic light" symbols are used: green=free access to full-text; yellow=access varies according to location of user; red=charged access; all colours at once=no information on availabity
A click on the icon allows the export of a title to the online bibliographics management program RefWorks.
A click on the box next to one or more records, or the icon to select all, will select one/several/all of the presently displayed results. The selected records can then be displayed using the drop-down menu above the search results by choosing the "display" option and clicking the red arrow , providing a full display, which contains the following information:
  • type of publication (Monographs/papers , articles , journals , treaties );
  • title, author, publication year, keywords, classification
  • database from which the records come
  • availability and holdings
  • availability as full-text
To return to the standard display, click the "back to list" button in the top left-hand corner of any record on display.

Selected records can be converted in to the following formats and exported:
  • RefWorks,
  • Endnote,
  • BibTex.
and can also be sent by email. The desired format can be selected using the drop-down menu above the search results and clicking the red arrow

All records visible on the screen can also be printed.

Search results can subsequently be
  • limited,
  • modified, or
  • filtered
